I was raised in Riverland Terrace on James Island and graduated from the "old" James Island High School. (Go,Rams!) Following three and a half years at the Baptist College at Charleston, now Charleston Southern University (yikes, I'm ancient!), during which time I met and married David Reese and had a son, David, I started teaching junior and senior English at my alma mater. After almost eleven years, I felt like I had been at JIHS my entire life and left to create a company, Reese's Releases, selling imprinted and embroidered sportswear throughout the Southeast. I was eventually lured back into the teaching profession by opportunities to teach Driver's Education (shocking my family and friends). I really enjoyed it, but after stepping in to cover my husband's Driver's Education and Health classes in the spring of 2005 while he was recovering from complications of diabetes, I learned from Dr. Gregory about a new program at James Island for students at risk of expulsion. I was intrigued by the possibilities, and was hired in the fall of 2005 to teach English in the WE CARE Alternative Program. I am learning every day along with my students, who never fail to challenge me in some way. And yes, "Calvin and Hobbs" is my all-time favorite cartoon strip.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing. -John Powell
Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being. -Goethe
Children require guidance and sympathy far more than instruction. -Annie Sullivan
You must learn day by day, year by year, to broaden your horizon. The more things you love, the more you are interested in, the more you enjoy, the more you are indignant about, the more you have left when anything happens. -Ethel Barrymore
God puts something good and lovable in every man His hands create. -Mark Twain, The American Vandal speech, 1868
